The Phi Kappa Phi (PKP) academic honor society chapter of California State University, Stanislaus presented special awards to a pair of community stalwarts and a longtime faculty member at its April 27 induction ceremony.

Joining the 31 new students and four new faculty members during the evening ceremony for special recognition were retiring CSU Stanislaus Theatre Professor and set design expert Noble Dinse for his contributions in the arts, Turlock Mayor John Lazar for community service, and Turlock Realtor Bob Endsley for support of the University as a business owner.

Dinse, who is recognized as one of the top theatre set designers in Central California, will conclude a 38-year career with the CSU Stanislaus faculty this year. He designed the Theatre Department's scene shop as well as the Amphitheatre and has put together more than 500 sets for University and other productions all over the state. Dinse developed a summer internship program for CSU Stanislaus students at the Sacramento Music Circus, and his professional scene designs have gained wide acclaim.

A 1981 graduate of CSU Stanislaus, Lazar was elected Mayor of Turlock in November 2006 and has served on the Turlock City Council for 14 years. A real estate broker for Coldwell Banker Endsley and Associates, Lazar worked as a legislative assistant in Sacramento and Washington, D.C., prior to starting his real estate career.

Endsley, a 1974 CSU Stanislaus graduate, formed his own Turlock-based real estate business in 1977 and built it into a highly successful firm that includes a staff of 90 professionals. A member of the CSU Stanislaus Foundation Board of Trustees and former member of the College of Business Administration Advisory Board, Endsley received the University's Alumni of the Year award in 2002. He has been active in the Turlock community as a leader and supporter of a variety of service organizations and programs.

Prior to the Phi Kappa Phi initiation ceremony, Jeff Perry and Sarah Utterback of the "Grey's Anatomy" TV show joined CSU Stanislaus Theatre Professor and actor John Mayer to stage a reading of the award-winning play "Art" and then participated in a panel discussion with "Grey's Anatomy" casting director Linda Lowy.
