With what began as small, hard-edged paintings, Eric Smail’s work has grown into complex interactions of colors, as well as groups of regular and irregular polyhedrons. Smail’s carefully chosen color harmonies and fanatical attention to detail help to create complex paper sculpture and wildly patterned installation. Made up thousands of individual parts these works look at both the organic and geometric.
Now working in a series of large-scale installations, Smail has been able to successfully up the ante in terms of both scale, and the density of architectonic color geometries.
