Artist Eleanor Wood is fascinated by the resistance of surfaces to marks. She has worked on both very hard and very soft and absorbent papers in her drawings and constructions, and is currently using photographic paper as a surface, with very minimal images already present. Eleanor Wood creates evocative images for the viewer, using a process of gradually building up layers and then removing much of the added material, leaving only traces. The imagery used within these handmade surfaces is personally evocative and somewhat reminiscent of rectangular architectural structures.
Eleanor Wood studied at Hornsey School of Art, Winchester School of Art (BA Hon. Fine Art) and at Chelsea School of Art (MA Painting) in England. Her work has been exhibited in England, Finland, Holland, Moscow, Latvia and Australia. Her work is represented in numerous public and private collections, including the Arts Council of Great Britain Collection, the Bass Brewery of London Collection, and the Sears Merchandizing Group Collection, Chicago.
