Fall 2011 Applications Set New Record
The California State University received a record number of undergraduate applications—more than 611,000—during its two-month fall 2011 priority application period, which began October 1 and ended November 30.  This year’s application total tops last year’s total of approximately 609,000 applications, which, at that time, was the highest ever.

On the deadline day alone, the CSU received 75,844 applications through CSUMentor.edu.  In particular, this year's fall 2011 application submissions by prospective first-time freshmen held strong at 426,992, a sizeable increase of almost 15,000 from the prior year.  By taking advantage of the fall priority application period, students can learn of any supplemental admission criteria, receive information about the university to which they are applying and initiate a relationship with their prospective campus.

While the fall 2011 application period has concluded for most campuses, some may continue to accept applications.  Additionally, several CSU campuses are continuing to admit qualified undergraduate and graduate students for the upcoming winter/spring 2011 terms.  More information.

Finalists Named for Cal Poly SLO Presidency

Three finalists have been named for the presidency of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo:

Each of the finalists will spend a day on campus this week meeting faculty, staff, students, alumni and community members.  An open forum will be held daily for the campus community.

"We are very fortunate to be able to select the next president of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo from among three tremendously experienced candidates," said CSU Trustee Roberta Achtenberg, who is chairing the Trustees' Committee for the Selection of the President.  "The person who ultimately fills this role will embody Cal Poly's learn-by-doing philosophy as an educator and administrator with the ability to form lasting partnerships with students, faculty and the community."

The new president will succeed Interim President Robert Glidden, who joined the campus in August following the retirement of President Warren J. Baker, who served as president since 1979.

The CSU Board of Trustees will interview the three finalists at a special board meeting on Dec. 13 and name the new Cal Poly SLO president later that week.  The new president is expected to begin in early 2011.  More information and candidate biographies.
