When Lawrence Broe (History, B.A. ’77, M.A. '79) received an appeal in the mail from CSU Stanislaus last year, he knew he wanted to give to his alma mater — but he had a different type of gift in mind. By including CSU Stanislaus in his estate plans, Broe was able to launch one of the largest endowed scholarships ever created by an alumnus of the university.
The Lawrence Broe Endowed Scholarship for Excellence in Graduate Studies in History will be awarded to graduate students who can demonstrate their passion for history through an essay, grade-point average and recommendations from faculty. Because the scholarship is set up as an endowment, it will serve future generations of CSU Stanislaus students in perpetuity.
Broe attended CSU Stanislaus for both his undergraduate and graduate work in history and subsequently spent his career with executive search firms, including Korn/Ferry International and Diversified Search.
"Attending CSU Stanislaus was a life-changing experience, because the skill set I learned studying history laid the foundation for my future success," Broe said.
