When Yun Frederick “Fred” Bee (Class of ’01) graduated from CSU Stanislaus with a business administration degree with a concentration in human resources, he may not have had his current job — owner of a successful international export business — in mind. Nevertheless, he believes the scope of his learning gave him a firm foundation on which to build.
Bee said students should study hard in their selected major, but they should also view it as a jumping-off point from which they can apply the broad base of knowledge they acquire to adapt to an ever-changing marketplace.
“New graduates should not be limited by their initial choice of major or let it determine who they will become professionally,” said Bee, owner of Enterprising Consulting Operation Global, Inc.
Bee also encouraged his fellow alumni to consider investing in the future like he has, by creating scholarships for CSU Stanislaus students. The $2,000 Bee Scholarship is available to junior, senior and graduate business students who demonstrate financial need.
“In a sense, we borrow the future from our children,” he said. “We are successful today because of the support we received as students. It is our duty to pledge our support to the next generation.”
Bee participates in the scholarship selection process by reviewing the applications and accompanying essays.
“I’m looking for students with good ideas," he said. "I want to see them thinking creatively and strategically about their future, and to tell me how they will use the scholarship to make them successful in their business career.”
