Alumna Honored for Police Work at CSU Stanislaus

Aimee Powers PortraitCSU Stanislaus alumna and police officer Aimee Powers was recently honored by two organizations in the coming months for her overall performance and integrity, in particular her efforts to battle drunk driving.

Powers was one of several officers to receive the California Hero Award from Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) at the organization's California Statewide Law Enforcement and Community Recognition event on June 1 in Sacramento.

In addition, Powers was named Officer of the Year by the Stanislaus Civitan Club and was recognized along with other area law enforcement personnel during the annual Civitan Awards Ceremony on May 23 in Modesto.

"Officer Powers has consistently proven herself as a dedicated and hardworking peace officer with a balanced approach," Police Chief Steven Jaureguy said. "Her success is a direct result of putting integrity first, placing service before self, and striving for excellence in all that she does."

Powers graduated from CSU Stanislaus in 2010 with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice, and she joined the University Police Department in December 2010 and won Rookie of the Year in the 2011 Staff Recognition Awards.

Jaureguy said in addition to exceeding performance standards, leading the department in drunk driving arrests and participating often in saturation patrols, Powers has undertaken many outreach and prevention efforts. She has been a part of the university's Fatal Vision Goggles demonstration, the Thirsty Thursday alcohol awareness program, and the SMART Day (Students Managing Alcohol Responsibility Together) program, among others.
